September 5 to 10 in the heart of Munich
From September 5 to 10, 2023, Munich became the global center for pioneering ideas and developments in the field of mobility. The IAA's big promise: a hands-on festival for everyone. From trade visitors to interested citizens. The concept - open space in the city and summit outside at the trade fair - was programmatically well linked. We as the future cluster MCube positioned ourselves in the IAA Mobility Citizens Lab in the middle of Marienplatz and became the central meeting point full of inspiration and exchange on the entire spectrum of the "future of mobility" for 6 days.

For 6 days, we showed visitors which innovative solutions we are developing for the challenges of urban mobility, where they are currently being tried and tested and how we can achieve the mobility transition TOGETHER. Our focus is on sustainability and innovation. We are working on solutions that make transportation in metropolitan regions more environmentally friendly and efficient. This is exactly what we talked about with over 1000 visitors at our stand during the IAA Mobility. Visitors were able to experience the entire range of our innovation projects up close and get to know the latest developments and technologies in the field of urban mobility.

MCube @ IAA Citizens Lab booth:
Highlights:
- autonomous multi-passenger shuttle vehicles (MCube Project Wies'n Shuttle)
- radically rethought sharing concepts (MCube project ComfficientShare)
- Neighborhood development and redistribution of public space for more livable cities (MCube project aqt)
- prototypes for the Mobility Equity Atlas (how fairly distributed is mobility in which district?) was able to show interested parties how (un)fairly mobility and mobility options are distributed in Munich's neighborhoods and thus raise awareness of this important issue among many people (MCube Project MGeM)
- a virtual reality experience where visitors could see what combined passenger and delivery transport on semi-flexible routes could look like in the future (MCube project STEAM)
- the full-cost perspective on our mobility behavior (MCube project SASIM)

We also offered visitors the opportunity to find out about sustainable mobility concepts and experience them first-hand. This was achieved, for example, through
- a citizens' forum where interested Munich residents could discuss their wishes and ideas for fair and sustainable urban mobility (MCube project SUE)
- a packet-pack challenge and an exhibited autonomous rickshaw to showcase intelligent charging systems of the future (MCube project InterLog)
- a digital image of our city on a touchscreen the size of a billiard table. Mobility data relating to mobility behavior, traffic flows, charging infrastructure and information on all our innovation projects were there for the public to 'touch' (MCube project DatSim)

The fundamental questions that arose during the trade fair and which we discussed intensively were:
🌱 How much mobility can and do we want to afford as a society?
💡 How can we make the mobility sector more resilient to global competition, especially from China, and accelerate the transformation?
⏳ How can we reform our cities and regions faster and more comprehensively in the face of the climate crisis?

👉 To kick off the IAA: Munich's pioneers of the future of mobility introduce themselves:
We have shown what happens when Munich's academic powerhouse - the Technical University of Munich with its start-up factory UnternehmerTUM - joins forces with the leading mobility companies in the region, with the state capital and the state government, with NGOs and start-ups, with the aim of developing scalable mobility solutions with a model character for metropolitan regions in Germany and worldwide. With
- Georg Dunkel (Mobility Officer of the City of Munich)
- Kirstin Hegner (Managing Director Digital Hub Mobility by UnternehmerTUM)
- Sebastian Pfotenhauer (Co-Director MCube & Professor for Innovation Research at the Munich University of Technology)
- Oliver May-Beckmann (Managing Director MCube)
Here go to the livestream.

👉 Car sharing: the topic of 'shared vehicles' was addressed in several discussion rounds and workshops. The MCube project ComfficientShare and the 'Hausflotte' project of the EntrepreneurTUM have provided information about #carsharing or car-sharing in a closed user group. Read more here.
👉 Professor Benedikt Boucsein of the Chair of Urban Design at the TUM and project manager of the MCube project aqt - car-reduced neighborhoods for a livable city - discussed together with our 2nd mayor Katrin Habenschaden about the mobility behavior of Munich residents and how our city - and other metropolises - can be made more liveable.

👉 E-fuels, how sustainable are they? MCube Co-Director and Head of the Chair of Automotive Engineering at the TUM, Markus Lienkampdiscussed the potential of e-fuels with experts.
👉 Is Vorsprung durch Technik enough to overcome the climate crisis? Sebastian Pfotenhauer (Co-Director MCube & Professor for Innovation Research at the Munich University of Technology) has with Simon Herzog the EntrepreneurTUM and other experts discussed this issue and came to the conclusion that although technology is important for combating the climate crisis, political measures, such as CO2 pricing, are necessary to really take a big step.

Further highlights:
👉 World record for the Tufast Eco Team of the TUMWith just over 2573 kilometers, the students drove the world's longest distance in an electric car without stopping to charge. They drove their e-car for 6 days on the Munich Airport to the new world record for the longest-range electric car in the world. On Saturday the September 9 was the day.
On the IAA Citizens Lab stage, the Guinness World Record jury cast its final vote: the world record was broken. Great achievement and a fantastic team! Read more here.
All in all, the huge interest shown by the visitors was clear: We are working on exactly the right topics. It was a very exciting and enriching 6 days for our cluster. We learned new things, recharged our creativity and gained new motivation and inspiration! #packmas
