14 innovative projects for the future of mobility - MCube Phase I 2021 - 2024

Nothing is more difficult than changing our own behavior. That's why the topic of the mobility transition is so sensitive, because it affects everyone. Debates about it are boiling over,
People often point the finger at others: Cyclists complain about cars, drivers about public transport, companies about politics. Working together seems difficult.
It was therefore not really to be expected that we would all get together in Munich and pull together to transform the mobility of our cities and regions. The starting position is clear:
Mobility is the key to climate neutrality and is at the heart of Germany's economic and innovative strength as well as the everyday lives of all people.
At the same time, everyone is aware of the problems: Our cities are growing, but space remains limited. Air pollution, congested roads, energy crises, social injustice and ever more climate damage show us every day that we urgently need to rethink our approach.
The facts are on the table: The transport sector causes almost 150 million tons of CO2 in Germany. An average public bus replaces up to 30 cars, cycling is emission-free, healthier and often faster, and an electric car is more climate-friendly than a petrol car in a short space of time. The challenge is that we not only know in theory what needs to be done, we also need to take practical action. And much faster.
That's why we need a new way of working together. This not only fits in with the spirit of the times, because where competition used to be the sole driver of progress, in our hyper-complex times it is collective action.
This is precisely where the TUM-led future cluster MCube comes in: We are united by the common will to shape the mobility of the future together. MCube is our platform, our real laboratory, not just a think tank or working group, but a completely new form of genuine "Co-CreationRefers to a joint development process in which various stakeholders - such as users, experts or citizens - actively participate in the design of ideas, products or solutions.".
Munich is the ideal nucleus for this: Germany's academic powerhouse with the best universities, Europe's strongest startup incubator at TUM, a modern administration, world-class companies, innovative startups and an active civil society - they all come together here in the MCube Cluster to develop and implement new, radical mobility solutions and business models. Bold, innovative, participative and with a shared vision.
And you know what?
With every good idea, the debates described at the beginning fade away. MCube has developed and tested a whole range of such ideas over the first three years. We present them in this issue. Ideas that have become visible in over 300 media articles, countless publications and concrete interventions in the region.
have become. Ideas that have shaped the discourse.
The often cited mantra - mobility is a minefield and we must not expect too much of people - collapses the more courageous, tangible and understandable these ideas are. People in the region are often already much further along. They know that something must and will change. And they want to do it.
And that's a good thing. Time is of the essence. Let's change our mobility behavior together, with enthusiasm and courage, and shape the future of mobility from Munich - sustainably, innovatively, with technical and social innovations and for everyone.
A new study by MCube Consulting on behalf of Zukunft Nahverkehr (ZNV) shows: Local public transport generates three times as much revenue for the German economy as it costs.
Mobility is at the heart of Germany's economic and innovative strength, the key to climate neutrality and the core of everyday life.
Carolin Zimmer from the Chair of Settlement Structure and Transport Planning and Sebastian Preiß from the Hans Sauer Foundation explain in an interview what the project has achieved and what makes it special.
Major award for a strong team: MCube Consulting receives the Innovation Award of the City of Munich - for a solution that reduces administrative workload, improves security and shows how research enables real change.
If Munich bids for the Olympics again, it will not do so arbitrarily - but with vision, attitude and a clear plan.
MCube had its own stand at the trade fair and brought together over 100 mobility pioneers at the "Bridging City Innovation Ecosystems" event above the rooftops of Barcelona.
What does the bus of tomorrow need to look like to convince as many people as possible to change buses voluntarily?
Our experts gave keynote speeches on why we need fair, inclusive mobility that is suitable for everyday use for everyone.
The city council of Landsberg am Lech has unanimously approved the new traffic development plan (VEP).
Innovation pioneers meet in Jülich to share transfer strategies, forge alliances and shape the future.

What is MOSAIQ?
Imagine something: There is more space for people. The streets have more trees and plants. Everyone can get around better. That's how your Schwabing-West district could be in the future. How would you like your district to be? We want to talk to you about it!
The project is called MOSAIQ. MOSAIQ is a research∙project. MOSAIQ means: Mobility and urban climate in the future city∙part. The Technical University of Munich is leading the project.
What is MOSAIQ about?
MOSAIQ wants to make the streets in the city∙part more beautiful. People should feel comfortable there. There should be more space. For meetings and plants, for example. You can help decide what is tried out in the Stadt∙teil. The ideas come from you. Some ideas will be tried out on the streets for a certain period of time.
The aim of MOSAIQ is to make urban districts good places to live.
At the same time, the climate in the city should improve. And people should be able to move around the city easily.
What is happening in the district?
