ABOUT
MoosachMoosach is located in the north-west of Munich and is one of the oldest places in the city.
The cultural and historical center of Moosach is located around St.-Martins-Platz. Events for local residents, such as the May festival or the Christmas market, take place here every year. Today, the district is characterized by its diversity.
In the eastern part of Moosach, there is a large number of commercial areas as well as increasingly dense development, such as the Olympic Press City or housing estates from the interwar period. In the western part, where the project quarter is located, a diverse mix of detached, terraced and multi-family houses predominates.
The Westfriedhof cemetery and Amphionpark provide some cooling. Nevertheless, the city climate analysis by the City of Munich shows that the district is largely affected by high temperatures. The residential areas that are further away from the green spaces are particularly affected by the heat. More greenery in the form of tree planting along the major streets could significantly improve the quality of stay.
The streets within the district also offer little quality of stay, are primarily designed for car traffic and are characterized by stationary traffic. Although more journeys are made by car in Moosach than in other districts, over 50 percent are made by foot and bicycle. Moosach is already well connected to local public transport by the U-Bahn and S-Bahn and is supplemented by streetcar and bus lines. These services are already used for 22 percent of Moosach residents' journeys. Shared mobility in the district is also playing an increasingly important role. The first mobility point is currently being set up at Moosach railroad station, where various shared mobility services are bundled in one place. More are to follow soon.
The Department of Urban Planning and Building Regulations is currently working on the "Moosach: colorful-social-sustainable-future-oriented" Approaches for sustainable urban development in the Moosach redevelopment area. With our MCube MOSAIQ innovation project, we want to use synergies, develop new ideas with residents and jointly provide impetus for further urban redevelopment.
The project districts (i.e. the neighborhoods in the Schwabing-West and Moosach districts where MOSAIQ will be active) were selected by the project team based on technical criteria and taking into account other projects in Munich and using technical criteria.
Specific selection criteria included:
The exact implementation locations in the neighborhood and their design have not yet been determined - because citizens and other local stakeholders will be actively involved in the development, design and implementation of measures through our innovation workshop, which will start in the fall.
One thing is certain: a trial temporary implementation of the ideas that will be jointly developed in 2025 will take place in public spaces from summer 2026.
Your neighborhood - your ideas:
That was the MOSAIQ ideas forum!
The MOSAIQ Ideas Forum took place in Moosach from September 17 to December 4, 2025. With the support of experts, citizens developed project outlines from the ideas submitted. A jury has now selected the most promising proposals. These could be implemented in the project quarter in Moosach from summer 2026 for a limited period of time. Among other things, this is dependent on successful approval and the consent of the local district committee.
The following shortlist summarizes the project proposals for the project quarter in Moosach, which will now be processed by the project team for further planning and approval:
1st project proposal: Meeting place in the neighborhood
Widening the sidewalks with furniture and greenery will create a meeting place for community activities at the intersection and make it safer to cross.
Location: intersection of Nanga-Parbat-Straße / Hugo-Troendle-Straße / Karlingerstraße
2nd project proposal: Safe footpath routes in the neighborhood
Existing footpaths are linked and made safer through clear crossing options with the help of parklets.
Location: Footpaths in the housing estate
3rd project proposal: Modular green
By installing combinable planting, seating and shading elements, places are created in the neighborhood that make it pleasant to spend time outdoors even in hot weather.
Location: integrated into the other measures
Everyone who lives, works or is active in the project quarter was invited to submit their ideas for the project area in Moosach and Schwabing-West from mid-September to mid-October 2025 via the MOSAIQ letterbox or digitally. The project team was also on site at the dialog points on a weekly basis. 46 idea profiles were submitted in Moosach. Of these, 34 met the specified requirements. In Schwabing-West, 90 idea profiles were submitted. Of these, 78 met the specified requirements.
The project forge took place in Moosach on October 25, 2025 and in Schwabing-West on November 15. The participating citizens selected what they considered to be the best ideas and developed them into project outlines with the support of experts. This resulted in 6 concrete project proposals per neighborhood. These were then submitted to the jury for pre-selection.
On December 4 (Schwabing-West) and December 11, 2025 (Moosach), the jury assessed which project outlines it recommended for further development and time-limited implementation. The jury was made up of members of the district committee, local senior citizens' representatives and experts from the administration in the areas of urban planning, urban climate and mobility.
The project team is now examining the recommended project proposals in detail and developing them further. Whether they can be implemented depends, among other things, on whether they can be approved. The approval of the district committee is also required. The aim is to implement the recommended proposals for several months to around a year from summer 2026.
From spring 2026, the neighborhood will continue with various participatory activities and dialogue formats. And there will be a more detailed exhibition on the ideas forum.

Time for a little winter break! The MOSAIQ team would like to thank you for an exciting year and your great commitment and wish you happy holidays.
From September 17 to December 11, 2025, the MOSAIQ Ideas Forum took place in the project districts in Moosach and Schwabing-West. Citizens developed project outlines from the ideas submitted with the support of experts. A jury has now selected the most promising proposals. These could be implemented in the project quarter for a limited period from summer 2026. Among other things, this is dependent on successful approval and the consent of the local district committee.
Curious? Here to see the shortlists of the project proposals.
Last Saturday (25.10.2025), committed Moosach residents worked in small groups with experts from the MOSAIQ project team on exciting project outlines in the project forge. Concrete approaches for the project district in Moosach were developed from ideas collected in advance in the district. The project outlines make suggestions ranging from greening and mobility to more quality of life - a great example of how much creativity and commitment there is in the neighborhood.
The Project Forge is part of the MOSAIQ Ideas Forum. You can find more information about the ideas forum, what happens to the project outlines now and when the project outlines will be exhibited at here.

What is MOSAIQ?
Imagine something: There is more space for people. The streets have more trees and plants. Everyone can get around better. That's how your Schwabing-West district could be in the future. How would you like your district to be? We want to talk to you about it!
The project is called MOSAIQ. MOSAIQ is a research∙project. MOSAIQ means: Mobility and urban climate in the future city∙part. The Technical University of Munich is leading the project.
What is MOSAIQ about?
MOSAIQ wants to make the streets in the city∙part more beautiful. People should feel comfortable there. There should be more space. For meetings and plants, for example. You can help decide what is tried out in the Stadt∙teil. The ideas come from you. Some ideas will be tried out on the streets for a certain period of time.
The aim of MOSAIQ is to make urban districts good places to live.
At the same time, the climate in the city should improve. And people should be able to move around the city easily.
What is happening in the district?
