Dear interested party,
We would like to ask you whether you would like to take part in a scientific study. In this information you will find everything you need to know about the study.
We plan to include 3000-4000 participants in the study.
This study is being planned by the Technical University of Munich under the leadership of the [professorship/chair subproject-specific] and will be carried out within the framework of MCube (https://mcube-cluster.de/) - the Munich cluster for the future of mobility in metropolitan regions. In MCube, scientists from TUM are cooperating with partners from business, administration and civil society in a total of nine sub-projects. The TUM Chair of Automotive Engineering is responsible for data collection and data processing.
The study is supported by public funds (Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space, BFMTR).
It was reviewed by an independent ethics committee and the TUM Data Protection Office. No objections to the conduct of this study were raised during the consultation.
Your participation in this study is voluntary. You can also end your participation at any time during the course of the study. You do not have to justify this. This will not result in any disadvantages for you.
Please read this information carefully. The principal investigator will talk to you about the study and answer your questions.
In the MCube research cluster, technological and social advances in the mobility sector are researched in innovation and integration projects in order to improve the quality of air, space and time in metropolitan regions. To this end, real-world laboratories are being conducted on topics such as public transport, urban space design and car sharing in the Munich metropolitan region.
In this study, the MCube innovation project is researching [.... sub-project set, example for MobiPionier: In the MCube sub-project MobiPionier, innovative mobility offers such as mobility budgets and mobility bundles are being researched to create an incentive to use sustainable means of transport. A mobility budget provides people with a sum of money that can only be used for certain mobility services such as public transport and car sharing. Mobility bundles combine various mobility offers such as a Germany ticket with a €30 credit for car sharing].
In this project [... List of all project participants, example for MobiPionier: MobiPionier is a collaboration between TUM (Chair of Mobility Policy, Chair of Urban Development and Transport Planning), Deutsche Bahn Connect GmbH, Stadtwerke München GmbH, the City of Munich, the ADAC Foundation and the Munich Transport and Tariff Association].
The study is expected to last X months for the individual participant. The study will be conducted as a real-world laboratory from XX to XXX [insert subproject-specific numbers].
The study begins with recruitment. In this context, we first ask you to agree to participate in the study and to complete a questionnaire with general information about yourself. As resources in the project are limited, only a limited number of people can take part in the study. We will therefore inform you by e-mail within a few days of you completing the questionnaire whether and in what form you will participate in the study.
If we select you for participation in the study, you will receive further information from us by e-mail. We will ask you to install the TUM Mobility App. This app semi-automatically generates a digital mobility diary based on GPS points. This mobility diary generates corresponding movement profiles and statistics. You can view these in the app itself. We use this mobility diary with the movement profiles and statistics for the evaluation. [One sentence for MobiPionier and ReFuMoLab, example MobiPionier: In addition, we may ask you to install and use a public transport ticket app, e.g. from Deutsche Bahn or Stadtwerke München. These apps are used to make the innovative mobility budgets or mobility bundles available for use in the real-world laboratory].
At the end of the study in XXXX, you will receive an e-mail from us with an invitation to a feedback survey and information on the end of the study (deletion of the apps, deletion and anonymization of the research data). After deleting the TUM Mobility App and completing the feedback survey, the study is finished.
The results of the study are helpful in improving the quality of air, time and space in the Munich metropolitan region. In addition, the research results can contribute to the development of user-centered mobility innovations in the long term.
All possible data protection risks have been minimized by appropriate technical and organizational measures in accordance with the recommendation of the LDA Bavaria and in accordance with the GDPR, so that participation in the study is not associated with any data protection risks. More information can be found under "Information on data protection".
[Project-specific statement, example MobiPionier: Participants can receive an expense allowance. If we ask participants to install and use the TUM Mobility App and a public transport ticket app, the expense allowance takes the form of the mobility budgets or mobility bundles provided for use. If we ask participants to install only the TUM Mobility App, they will receive a voucher of a similar value].
If participants withdraw before the end of the study, the expense allowance will not be paid out.
Participants should allow enough time for the study. We expect about 5 minutes/day to check and confirm the entries in the TUM Mobility App.
The five MCube sub-projects ComfficientShare 2.0, MobiPionier, MOSAIQ, ReFuMoLab and WiPa each carry out studies in the Munich metropolitan region and cooperate in conducting the studies and collecting data. Overall, the Chair of Automotive Engineering at the Technical University of Munich is responsible for data processing for all sub-projects.
The legal basis for the processing of your data is your personal consent (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a, Art. 9 para. 2 lit. a GDPR). Your data will be treated confidentially at all times. Consent is given electronically via the following website. Consent includes actively confirming a button and providing your e-mail address for communication.
The data is collected for the purpose of this study described above and used within the consortium for this purpose. The use of the data also includes the linking of survey and movement data from the TUM Mobility App and potential third-party apps such as the public transport ticketing apps.
We also plan to make additional use of the data outside of this study. Data from this study can also be used in the other MCube subprojects ComfficientShare 2.0, MobiPionier, MOSAIQ, ReFuMoLab and WiPa, e.g. as a reference value. Consequently, the secondary purposes of this survey are also the purposes of the other MCube studies. More details on all participating MCube projects can be found in the study information [Link].
The data also includes personal identifying data such as e-mail, gender and movement profiles. All data that could directly identify you is replaced by an identification code (pseudonymized). Before the movement data is linked to the survey data, it is aggregated spatio-temporally, for example the exact start and destination locations and the exact start and destination times are replaced by a rough grid and waypoints are removed. This makes it almost impossible for unauthorized persons to identify you. The use of data in the MCube sub-projects is therefore de facto anonymized.
The data is stored by the Chair of Automotive Engineering at TUM. After the end of the last participating MCube study, the personal identification features and the raw data are deleted from the TUM Mobility App. The Chair of Automotive Engineering passes on the collected data to the respective MCube sub-projects. Before being passed on, the movement data from the TUM Mobility App is aggregated spatio-temporally to make re-identification more difficult. Further information on this can be found in the "Information on data protection".
We do not transfer the collected data to other institutions in Germany, the EU, to a third country outside the EU or to an international organization.
The research data can be used for scientific publications and/or made available to other researchers in scientific databases for an unlimited period of time. The data will be used in a form that does not allow any conclusions to be drawn about the individual study participants (anonymized). We intend to archive the anonymized research data with restricted access on the servers of the TUM University Library after the end of the study. Only after approval and signing of a data use agreement by those responsible for data processing can the data subsequently be used within the TUM.
Consent to the processing of your data is voluntary. You can revoke your consent at any time without giving reasons and without any disadvantages for you. Data will then no longer be collected. This does not affect the lawfulness of the processing carried out on the basis of the consent until revocation.
You have the right to receive information about the data concerning you, also in the form of a copy free of charge. For technical reasons, you can only request the deletion of the raw data. Due to the technical steps taken to make re-identification more difficult when using data in the sub-projects, it is not possible to request deletion, blocking or restriction.

What is MOSAIQ?
Imagine something: There is more space for people. The streets have more trees and plants. Everyone can get around better. That's how your Schwabing-West district could be in the future. How would you like your district to be? We want to talk to you about it!
The project is called MOSAIQ. MOSAIQ is a research∙project. MOSAIQ means: Mobility and urban climate in the future city∙part. The Technical University of Munich is leading the project.
What is MOSAIQ about?
MOSAIQ wants to make the streets in the city∙part more beautiful. People should feel comfortable there. There should be more space. For meetings and plants, for example. You can help decide what is tried out in the Stadt∙teil. The ideas come from you. Some ideas will be tried out on the streets for a certain period of time.
The aim of MOSAIQ is to make urban districts good places to live.
At the same time, the climate in the city should improve. And people should be able to move around the city easily.
What is happening in the district?
