MCube DEMO DAY - Completion of the first implementation phase (Oct. 24)

What makes Munich so special as an innovation powerhouse?

We were often asked this question at MCube DEMO DAY on October 23, 2024.

We celebrated three years of MCube with over 200 guests at the Munich Urban Colab and presented our first pioneering mobility projects: From the autonomous Wiesn shuttle, to radically rethought car sharing approaches, to the innovative full-cost calculator, to car-reduced neighborhood developments, we showed what is possible in a short time. We have made it clear how important it is to always think about technical and social innovations together. This is in MCube's DNA.

What makes MCube special?

Munich is a place where Germany's academic strength, the innovative power of start-ups, the economy, a future-oriented administration and a strong civil society come together to develop solutions together. But at MCube, "coming together" means more: despite different perspectives and goals, we have real Co-Creation We have learned to think outside the box - with a lot of empathy, trust and the will to think outside the box. It's not just individual KPIs that count, but the big picture.

And it works: The results of our network are visible throughout Germany, from the Tagesschau to page 3 of the Süddeutsche Zeitung. But the real progress happens in the background - by building trust and a deep understanding of each other. When a courageous administration, a strong economy, inquisitive science and an active civil society work as a team, transformation becomes possible.

We now need this foundation everywhere in Germany in order to tackle the major challenges of our time. This is precisely the goal of the Future Cluster Initiative of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research - and the core of the MCube Cluster.

3 years of MCube: a look back at DEMO DAY 2024

The MCube DEMO DAY 2024 was not only an exciting evening, but also an interim presentation of what we can achieve together. Many thanks to everyone who made this day happen:

The time for change is now. Together we can make the difference - for a sustainable, innovative and liveable future of mobility.

The new study shows: Every euro invested in public transport in the MVV generates almost four times the economic value added.

Electric, autonomous, networked: The logistics industry is facing a major transformation. The MCube Speaker Series at the Deutsches Museum discussed how this future can become reality.

The lessons learned from the first MCube funding phase show which factors really drive projects forward - and where typical barriers arise.

Creating transparency, proving impact, sharpening strategies - the new indicator guide supports precisely this.

For the first time in this format, students made their way to three European cities. They went to Stockholm, Tallinn/Helsinki and Barcelona.

This time, mobility in the cities of Ljubljana, Genoa and Utrecht was examined.

How can mobility data and simulations make cities more liveable - and change visible and tangible?

What do Brussels, Lisbon, Milan and Paris have in common?

Where to put cars, bicycles and e-scooters - and how do we organize parking space fairly, efficiently and sustainably?

What is MOSAIQ?
Imagine something: There is more space for people. The streets have more trees and plants. Everyone can get around better. That's how your Schwabing-West district could be in the future. How would you like your district to be? We want to talk to you about it!

The project is called MOSAIQ. MOSAIQ is a research∙project. MOSAIQ means: Mobility and urban climate in the future city∙part. The Technical University of Munich is leading the project.

What is MOSAIQ about?
MOSAIQ wants to make the streets in the city∙part more beautiful. People should feel comfortable there. There should be more space. For meetings and plants, for example. You can help decide what is tried out in the Stadt∙teil. The ideas come from you. Some ideas will be tried out on the streets for a certain period of time.
The aim of MOSAIQ is to make urban districts good places to live.
At the same time, the climate in the city should improve. And people should be able to move around the city easily.

What is happening in the district?

  • In the year 2025:
The people in the district can participate. They can express their ideas. There are discussions, surveys and meetings. Researchers are also starting their work.
  • In the year 2026:
    Some ideas are tried out.
They are moved around the streets for a certain period of time.
  • In the year 2027:
    The results are evaluated.
Consideration is given to how things can continue∙.
