14 innovative projects for the future of mobility - MCube Phase I 2021 - 2024

Nothing is more difficult than changing our own behavior. That's why the topic of the mobility transition is so sensitive, because it affects everyone. Debates about it are boiling over,
People often point the finger at others: Cyclists complain about cars, drivers about public transport, companies about politics. Working together seems difficult.
It was therefore not really to be expected that we would all get together in Munich and pull together to transform the mobility of our cities and regions. The starting position is clear:
Mobility is the key to climate neutrality and is at the heart of Germany's economic and innovative strength as well as the everyday lives of all people.
At the same time, everyone is aware of the problems: Our cities are growing, but space remains limited. Air pollution, congested roads, energy crises, social injustice and ever more climate damage show us every day that we urgently need to rethink our approach.
The facts are on the table: The transport sector causes almost 150 million tons of CO2 in Germany. An average public bus replaces up to 30 cars, cycling is emission-free, healthier and often faster, and an electric car is more climate-friendly than a petrol car in a short space of time. The challenge is that we not only know in theory what needs to be done, we also need to take practical action. And much faster.
That's why we need a new way of working together. This not only fits in with the spirit of the times, because where competition used to be the sole driver of progress, in our hyper-complex times it is collective action.
This is precisely where the TUM-led future cluster MCube comes in: We are united by the common will to shape the mobility of the future together. MCube is our platform, our real laboratory, not just a think tank or working group, but a completely new form of genuine "Co-CreationRefers to a joint development process in which various stakeholders - such as users, experts or citizens - actively participate in the design of ideas, products or solutions.".
Munich is the ideal nucleus for this: Germany's academic powerhouse with the best universities, Europe's strongest startup incubator at TUM, a modern administration, world-class companies, innovative startups and an active civil society - they all come together here in the MCube Cluster to develop and implement new, radical mobility solutions and business models. Bold, innovative, participative and with a shared vision.
Und weißt du was?
With every good idea, the debates described at the beginning fade away. MCube has developed and tested a whole range of such ideas over the first three years. We present them in this issue. Ideas that have become visible in over 300 media articles, countless publications and concrete interventions in the region.
have become. Ideas that have shaped the discourse.
The often cited mantra - mobility is a minefield and we must not expect too much of people - collapses the more courageous, tangible and understandable these ideas are. People in the region are often already much further along. They know that something must and will change. And they want to do it.
The lessons learned from the first MCube funding phase show which factors really drive projects forward - and where typical barriers arise.
Creating transparency, proving impact, sharpening strategies - the new indicator guide supports precisely this.
For the first time in this format, students made their way to three European cities. They went to Stockholm, Tallinn/Helsinki and Barcelona.
This time, mobility in the cities of Ljubljana, Genoa and Utrecht was examined.
How can mobility data and simulations make cities more liveable - and change visible and tangible?
What do Brussels, Lisbon, Milan and Paris have in common?
Where to put cars, bicycles and e-scooters - and how do we organize parking space fairly, efficiently and sustainably?

What is MOSAIQ?
Imagine something: There is more space for people. The streets have more trees and plants. Everyone can get around better. That's how your Schwabing-West district could be in the future. How would you like your district to be? We want to talk to you about it!
The project is called MOSAIQ. MOSAIQ is a research∙project. MOSAIQ means: Mobility and urban climate in the future city∙part. The Technical University of Munich is leading the project.
What is MOSAIQ about?
MOSAIQ wants to make the streets in the city∙part more beautiful. People should feel comfortable there. There should be more space. For meetings and plants, for example. You can help decide what is tried out in the Stadt∙teil. The ideas come from you. Some ideas will be tried out on the streets for a certain period of time.
The aim of MOSAIQ is to make urban districts good places to live.
At the same time, the climate in the city should improve. And people should be able to move around the city easily.
What is happening in the district?
